Luce Line for fun and points
With all the mountain bike trails closed for the day because of the rains the Single Speed Championships were postponed and a pseudo gravel tune up ride was arranged.
Jim, John B., and Ed showed up and rode varying distances since Jim rode from home, Ed rode from work, and John drove.
Not wanting to do any math it was decided that 10 points each would be appropriate.

Temp: 92
Wind: Strong Headwind
Distance: 30 miles (unless you are Ed)
Heat Index: 99 .
Heat Index: 99 .
Three by car and one by bike, four rotts showed
up in 99 degree heat index for the inaugural
longest ride of the rotts history - Lyndale Lolly. Sure there was talk
about reducing the distance, but it was brief and we would have none of that.
Ed started it off followed by Jim, John C and
John Barton as clean-up. Course layout allowed multiple opportunities to
gage the distance at turnaround - not always a good thing when someone is
tracking you down.
At the first turnaround in Delano, Ed was riding
hard and had added separation from Jim as John C closed in with John B not
far behind.
At the second turnaround in Watertown, Ed
was still going strong maintaining the separation followed by
John C and John B right behind. Jim having biked in for
the ride was starting to feel it at this point.
Heading back toward Lyndale, similar to
the economy, the riders had strong headwind with multiple hills to climb.
All struggled as John B passed John C and was making ground on Ed.
As the group passed the Lyndale church
for the last loop, John B had Ed within his sights and was salivating to
finish off the last pass. Ed on the other hand had other plans. On
the first turn, Ed went straight thus avoiding being passed and
leaving John B confused and muttering 'what kind of trickery is this'. In
the end, the extra 30min ride was worth it for Ed.

Uno Dos Tres Quatros Killer
A
perfect evening for the dogs to attack the legendary slopes of Baker.
Tension
mounted as the pack members evaluated the optimal number of rounds to provide a
tactical advantage. This was complicated by the consideration that no one
really knew how the scoring works.
Finally,
John C. broke and started with others in the pack following.
Welcome
to new person, Karl, (And Tom, who we missed in the original post)
Temperature
84 degrees F. Winds 6 mph constant tailwind from all directions for all
riders. ( a miracle of the Baker topography and Rottweeler race
directors).

"I'm with Stupid" Mountain Bike Time Trial
July 3rd, hot, humid, buggy.
Given the weather conditions (heat index 105 degrees) it was
decided that a warm up lap to loosen up was probably a good idea followed by a
sprint lap for time.
The riders were split into two heats based on
enthusiasm.
In the "This is fun" heat it was the old dog
Barton battling the young pup Carline.
In the "I'm with Stupid" heat it was the two
middle aged guys trying to find a speed that would require the least amount of
effort to keep upright and ahead of the mosquitos.
"This is fun" Heat Final Results
Barton 17:19
Carline 17:38
"I'm with Stupid" Heat Final Results
Matthiesen 21:13
Smith 21:18
All participants then gathered at the Matthiesen Mansion for
Brats, burgers, beer, chips, veggies, Rice Krispy bars, and then some more
beer.
Next race is the quad killer on Tuesday.

Age Adjusted Rolling Rambler
Results below for the age adjusted rolling rambler.
Darla Delange provided the timing. Thanks!
It wouldn't be a time trial without some level of timing
controversy involving Mr. Carline. After some haggling the
controversy was solved when someone said "well it's pretty easy to tell
which time belonged to which rider if you go by the order they finished
in". Mr. Carline's gambit to overtake Mr. Smith fell 3 seconds
short this time.
Once the spreadsheet was mastered and the math settled,
Geezer Gary and Geriatric John B dominated the field. Unfortunately
neither could stay for the picnic to celebrate their victory.
Unlike the rest of us they didn't have passes to stay out of the assisted
living center past 7PM. Or, more likely they saw an
opportunity to clean up at bingo with the diminished field because of the picnic.
Kate added a twist to age adjustment by also doing a
separate ride calling for a math course adjustment.
Grill Master Klima rose to the grilling challenge and guided
Mr. Smith through the intricacies of how raw food becomes cooked.
It was quite educational for Mr. Smith who seemed to have trouble
grasping the concept until he saw it play out. Hopefully at the
next picnic the grill master will continue to close the loop with a
demonstration on how live animals become raw food.
Bob seems to be getting faster but claims he is riding less
(actually not riding at all). Seems counterintuitive, but worth a
try.
Pete seems to be quickly getting back in shape and had the
top raw time. Had he been 19 years older he would have beat
Gary.
Tim noted the drop off in attendance due to the move to
Tuesdays. It was brought to everyone's attention that Tuesday's
Children (Ed and Steve) were not at the ride. A mid season move of
the rides back to Wednesday is under consideration.
Oh yeah, Frosted Flakes 54, Cheerios 0, we call that a
shutout where I come from.
Let's do this again. Somehow I brought home more and
better beer than I started with even after giving some to Klima.
Thanks Pete..... I think.
Elm Creek Mountain Bike next Tuesday.
Thanks!
