Lyndale Lolly-pallooza
Temp: 92
Wind: Strong Headwind
Distance: 30 miles (unless you are Ed)
Heat Index: 99 .

Three by car and one by bike, four rotts showed
up in 99 degree heat index for the inaugural
longest ride of the rotts history - Lyndale Lolly. Sure there was talk
about reducing the distance, but it was brief and we would have none of that.
Ed started it off followed by Jim, John C and
John Barton as clean-up. Course layout allowed multiple opportunities to
gage the distance at turnaround - not always a good thing when someone is
tracking you down.
At the first turnaround in Delano, Ed was riding
hard and had added separation from Jim as John C closed in with John B not
far behind.
At the second turnaround in Watertown, Ed
was still going strong maintaining the separation followed by
John C and John B right behind. Jim having biked in for
the ride was starting to feel it at this point.
Heading back toward Lyndale, similar to
the economy, the riders had strong headwind with multiple hills to climb.
All struggled as John B passed John C and was making ground on Ed.
As the group passed the Lyndale church
for the last loop, John B had Ed within his sights and was salivating to
finish off the last pass. Ed on the other hand had other plans. On
the first turn, Ed went straight thus avoiding being passed and
leaving John B confused and muttering 'what kind of trickery is this'. In
the end, the extra 30min ride was worth it for Ed.
Rider Time Points
John B 1:28:49 10
John C 1:31:03 9
Ed 1:31:04* 8 *Valiant
effort, but still likely 1 second short.
